Jazz In Town: Festive Jazz Hits The Area with Carmen Intorre, Pat Bianchi, What Would Mingus Do?, Curtis Lundy, and More!

Curtis lundyThis weekend marks the 19th Annual Masten District Jazz Festival held at M.L.K. Park across from the Buffalo Museum Of Science.   The festival runs two consecutive weekends, this Sunday July 20th and next Sunday July 27th from 3pm until 8pm.  Scheduled to appear are musicians from Buffalo, Toronto, and New York City.  Closing performances includes the Carmen Intorre/Pat Bianchi Organ Trio this Sunday the 20th and acclaimed bassist Curtis Lundy, well known as the bassist for jazz vocalist Betty Carter and who appeared in works with John Hicks, Jonny Griffin, and Bobby Watson, will be the closing performance on July 27th.  The festival is hosted by James “Pappy” Martin, whose own Pappy Martin Love Supreme band will make an appearance on the 27th

Jazzy Sunday Afternoon

This Sunday, July 20th, there will be plenty of jazz happening simultaneously.  The Albright-Knox Art Gallery Summer Jazz Series continues this Sunday with the duo of Patty Flaherty and Craig Kastelnik beginning at 2pm. 

Previously noted here, Carmen Intorre and Pat Bianchi will be getting warmed up at Milkie’s on Elmwood Avenue for a Sunday Matinee performance.

trioPAYAZZO will be at The Phoenix  Sunday beginning at 3:00pm

The Jazz Odyssey continues their free open rehearsals at the Central Park Grill beginning at 3pm. 

Plenty of good jazz for a Sunday afternoon!
