Fall is officially here and it may be the start of a bountiful fall season of jazz in the greater Buffalo area. The bounty kicks off in October with a performance by one of Buffalo’s best original jazz bands, What Would Mingus Do? Look for this improvisational band Thursday October 2nd at 8pm to be performing another fantastic show at PAUSA Art house on Wadsworth Street in the Allentown district. It will feature Kelly Bucheger leading the way on tenor sax, Tim Clarke on trumpet, Michael McNeil on piano, John Bacon Jr. on drums, and Greg Piontek on bass. Admission is $7/$5 students.
Buffalo Hall Of Fame
Also this Thursday is the induction of some of Buffalo’s best jazz and other genre artists into the Buffalo Music Hall of Fame. Congrats go out to Joe Baudo, Joe Parisi, Jeff Miers, Theresa Quinn, Bob Meir, Kenny Thomasula, Jack Prybylski, Gary Keller, Geno McManus, Mary Peters, and several more. Of special note for jazz fans, is the long waited induction of Anne Fadale and be sure to catch JazzBuffalo’s tribute to Anne Fadale here.
Jazz In Town
On Friday October 3rd at 8pm at PAUSA Art House marks the debut of a Groove Jazz Sound called Buffalo Stone Groove. It is nice to see refreshing and emerging young jazz artists hitting the scene. Here you will have the unique Einot Agmon on vocal, David Pinchoff on piano, Anthony Henry on bass, Ellen Pieroni on sax, Evan Kaderbeck on guitar, and Ryan Campbell on drums. Certainly expect a groovy time. (This event is preceded by Acoustic Preludes featuring John Radice on Ukulele and Six String Banjo beginning at 6:30pm.) Admission is $7/$5 students.
The Ellen Pieroni Quartet with Jacob Peter will be at Buffalo Iron Works Thursday October 2nd at 8pm
At the Roycroft Inn in East Aurora on Friday October 3rd, you can catch the Mat Felski quartet with Tim Clarke, Mike Jones, and Wayne Moose
Catch the Abdul-Rahman Qadir Trio at the 31 Club on Friday, October 3rd at 9:30pm
Catch Janice Mitchell on vocals with Jim Bieshline on piano, and Matt Harris on sax at Milos Restaurant on October 4th at 7pm
Bobby Jones on piano will be performing with Jim Colemon on bass and Paul Fadale on drums at the Shakti Lounge located at Shakti Yoga on Grant Street in Buffalo on October 4th at 8pm.
The Anchor Bar continues its host of the Jazz Example on Friday and Sol Y Sombra on Saturday beginning at 8pm.
The Winelight Band with Jim Bohm, David Calire, Greg Livingston, and Ken Whitman with special guest Bobby Militello will be at Duke’s Bohemian Bar October 4th at 6pm
See All Hands at Oliver’s Restaurant on Saturday October 4th beginning at 8:30pm with George Jones, Bill Staebell, and John Bacon Jr.
