Jazz In Town: A Throwdown Before Christmas!

The final weekend before Christmas gets underway with – what else? – a throwdown by none other than legendary bassist Juini Booth.   When Juini is in town, you can expect some free jazz sounds to be flowing loudly through Buffalo. 

Here are some noteworthy Jazz In Town events this weekend:

Look for Mark Filsinger and the Hot Trad Five at Merge on Thrusday at 7pm with Mark on trumpet, Phil Sims on trombone, Candice Thomas on drums, Wayne Moose on bass, and Jared Tinkham on guitar for Dixie-style jazz.

Juini-booth-2THROWDOWN V takes place at the Essex Street Pub Thursday night beginning at 9:30pm with Juini Booth on bass, Ravi Padmanebha on drums, and Steve Baczkowski on saxophones throwing down free jazz messages all night!

 

 

 

 

 

DgCatch these young cats -The Jon Lehning Quartet with special guest Syl Debunion on saxophone at Alternative Brew Friday beginning at 7pm with Harry Graser on piano, Anthony Henry on bass, and Erik Hallmark on drums.

 

 

 

 

 

See the Jazz Example once again at the Anchor Bar this Friday beginning at 8pm with Bilal Abdullah on sax, Doug Trigger Gaston on keyboards, Greg Piontek on bass, Lester Robinson on drums, and Chuck Buffamonte on guitar.

WTZ 3:17:13This Friday you can catch the Phil Sims Jazz Quartet at the Roycroft in East Aurora with Phil Sims on trombone, Warren Stirtzinger on guitar, Paul Zapolowski on bass, and Tom Kasperek on drums,

 

 

 

 

AbdulThe Abdul-Rahman Qadir Trio with special guest Tony Gloster continue their run this Friday at 9:30pm at the 31 Club.

 

 

 

 

Dick griffoOn Saturday at 1pm in Niagara Falls the Saturday Dick Griffo Workshop Jazz Big Band will be performing at the Topper Social Club.  Hats off to Karen Ragusa for keeping the workshop started by Dick Griffo going!

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

See Sol Y Sombra led by Kevin Doyle at the Anchor Bar this Saturday at 8pm.

On Saturday at 8:30pm, All Hands provides music once again at Oliver’s with George Jones on piano, Bill Staebell on bass, and John bacon Jr. on drums.
