Jazz In Town: A Star-Studded Weekend Of Jazz

Jazz in Buffalo will have a star-studded few days coming up.  Featuring 2014 JazzBuffalo Reader’s and Fan Poll nominees and winners – as well as a host of other jazz artist equally deserving for their tremendous talents.  As our new coach of the Bills, Rex Ryan said today, “get ready because we’re going!”

PAUSA Art House Gets Star-Studded!

Michael mcneilThings get underway at PAUSA Art House this Thursday.  Beginning at 7pm, grab a seat and see one of our finest jazz and classical pianist in Michael McNeil.  During this Acoustic Prelude, he will present his classical side with the music of Beethoven, Schoenburg, and Scriabin.

 

 

 

 

Buffalo-jazz-octetAt 8pm at PAUSA Art House, Michael McNeil then appears in the debut of the Buffalo Jazz Octet at PAUSA.  Conducting is Brendon Fitzgerald and includes Tim Clarke, Kelly Bucheger, John Bacon Jr, John Hasselback, Jr., Nelson Rivera, Dave Arenius, and Steve Baczkowski.  You are in for original music with some free-jazz orientation.  However, tune your ears and listen in to some of the best talent in Buffalo.

  

Star people 1On Friday beginning at 8pm at PAUSA Art House, see Star People – The Miles Davis Project as they play the music of Miles and those influenced by Miles.  This band, led by George Caldwell, will feature the Bobby Militello on alto sax, Tim Clarke on trumpet, John Bacon, Jr. on drums, Miles Tucker on tenor sax, and Danny Ziemann on bass.  A true star-studded cast!

This Thursday at 8:30pm, you can drop in on the rehearsals of the Carol McLaughlin Big Band at the Historic Colored Musician’s Club

This Friday at Wegman's on Amherst Steet, see vocalist Beck Davis with John Hasselback and Mark Harris

Look for My Cousin Tone’ this Friday at Wegman’s on Sheridan and Evans beginning at 6pm.

Joanna Batt group_2At the Roycroft Inn in East Aurora, you can see the Joanna BattJazz Quartet with Phil Sims on keyboards, Jack Kulp on bass, and Tom Kasperek on drums backing up the jazz vocalist

See the Jazz Example, led by Doug “Trigger” Gaston, this Friday beginning at 8pm at the Anchor Bar with Greg Piontek on bass, Lester robinson on drums, and Chuck Buffamonte on guitar.

 

 

 

 

 

Catch the Abdul-Rahman Qadir Trio with special guest Tony Gloster at the 31 Club beginning at 9:30pm

Saturday at 8pm, Sol Y Sombra continues its' weekly gig at the Anchor Bar
