April Is Jazz Appreciation Month!

Jam-poster-2015April is Jazz Appreciation Month

April marks the annual month we celebrate appreciation for jazz.  Now, in its’ 14th year, the American History Museum and the Smithsonian Institute pays tribute to the American art form we call jazz.

Celebrations are taking place throughout the country and Internationally throughout April.  Here, in our hometown of Buffalo, you will find jazz in various forms and formats throughout this month.  From the avant-garde free-form style to the classics, which embody the mainstream melodies and harmonies of jazz.

Visible here is the annual poster for the Jazz Appreciation Month (J.A.M.).  Each year, an artist is chosen to pay tribute to.  This year, the poster features Billy Strayhorn and his long association as a composer with the Duke Ellington Orchestra.  Two of Strayhorn’s most recognizable tunes are “Take The A Train” and the classic “Lush Life.”  Previous poster honorees included John Coltrane, Dave Brubeck, Mary Lou Williams, and Dave Brubeck.

Here are several announcements by some of our well known jazz artists, including Pat Martino who just visited Buffalo:
