Finally, spring is in the air. The sounds of jazz can be heard throughout WNY.
April marked the annual Jazz Appreciation Month. However, jazz can be appreciated throughout WNY and Greater Buffalo all year round. As we enter into spring full-swing, we are seeing a resurgence of jazz to match the resurgent vibrancy we see in our city.
Jazz In Town
End of the college semester. This means we have some talented young musicians eager to perform. Check out the Buffalo State Jazz Ensemble Thursday April 30th at 7;30 pm on the campus in the beautiful Rockwell Hall. Free admission and some super talented performers. Also, Thursday April 30th, at Pausa Art House, check out the UB Saxophone Quartet as well as the UB Late Night Jazz Band with special guests Dave Schiavone and Harry Fackelman with the Late Night Band led by George Caldwell.
The Fredtown Stompers and Bue Stone Groove get together for a joint appearance at the Gypsy Parlor Thursday, April 30th, at 8pm.
Carol McLaughlin Big Band will be at the Historic Colored Musicians Club this Thursday, April 30th, beginning at 8:30pm.
You can see smooth jazz trumpeter Will Bradley at Iris, Friday, May 1st with doors opening at 6pm and tickets $15 day of the show, $10 pre-sale.

Check out My Cousin Tone’ at the Pizza Plant on Transit, this Saturday May 2nd, beginning at 8pm.
On Sunday, May 3rd, the Historic Colored Musicians Club kicks off a new time for performance and jam with the Bob Davis Trio beginning 6pm with free admission for members and $3 for non-members.
On Tuesday, May 5th, The Phil Sims Quartet with Katy Miner will be at The Bijou Grille beginning at 7pm
Wednesday Night Jazz With Wayne Moose. This past Wednesday we saw Janice Mitchell and Jim Beishline, Upcoming is a cool jazz guitarist night of Warren Stirtzinger and George Kane. Taking place, Wednesday, May 6, beginning at 6:30pm at Mezza Restaurant. And, many thanks to Mezza for opening their doors to jazz.

The annual Legends of Jazz series at Williamsville East High School this year features Houston Person with vocalist Karin Allyson on May 20th at 7:30pm. More news to come on this event
JazzBuffalo will be hosting Sunday Jazz Series in partnership with 189 Main in East Aurora beginning in May. The events will take place from 4:30pm until 7:30pm every third week of the month from May until September. The series begins with two performances in May with Phil DiRe and Friends on May 17th and followed by Carina and The Six String Preacher on May 30th.
Pete and Will Anderson Trio will be making a stop in Buffalo on their national tour May 19th at Premier Cabaret at MusicalFare Theatre.
Fabulous female jazz vocalist Nancy Kelly makes a visit to MusicalFare Premier Cabaret June 19th with her band she will perform with at the Rochester International Jazz festival. More news coming.
