The weather is cool once again. Which can only mean one thing; there is plenty of cool jazz happening in the Greater Buffalo area.
Jazz In Town
On the national scene: We have two events next week. First up on Tuesday May 19th at 8pm are the Pete and Will Anderson Trio at the Cabaret Lounge of MusicalFare Theatre. A special visit of Julliard trained saxophonists and clarinets who will be headlining the Jazz at the Lincoln Center tribute to Benny Goodman. See video below for a taste.
Then next up on Wednesday May 20 beginning at 7:30pm are Houston Person and Karin Allyson joining the Williamsville East HS Jazz Ensemble under the direction of Wayne Moose for their annual Legends of Jazz concert. See write up here: Legends of Jazz
Wednesday Night Jazz With Wayne Moose. This Wednesday is the fabulous vocals of Cindy Miller, who will travel from Rochester to join Wayne Moose for this special Wednesday event. According to Wayne Moose: In the field of jazz, Cindy has performed, or recorded with, flutist Hubert Laws, guitarist Gene Bertoncini, Chuck Mangione, world famous vibraphonist Peter Appleyard, pianist Ted Rosenthal, bassist Jay Leonhart, numerous appearances with the Gap Mangione Big Band, Benny Goodman Tribute Band, Central New York Jazz Ensemble, and has appeared many times with Michael Lasser, host of PBS radio's nationally syndicated show "Fascinatin' Rhythm. A dynamic entertaining singer indeed! Taking place, Wednesday, May13 beginning at 6:30pm at Mezza Restaurant.
On Thursday, May 14th at 8pm at Pausa Art House, catch resAUnance with Michael McNeil, Esin Gunduz, John Bacon, and Jonathon Golove.
On Friday, May 15, at 7:30pm at the Roycroft Inn will be the band Three Brothers and a Distant Cousin. The band will feature Andy Weinzler, Russ D'Alba, Kelly Bucheger, tenor saxes, Phil Sims, trombone, Michael T. Jones, piano, Paul Zapalowski, bass, and Dan Hull, drums. This band rarely gets together to perform but when they do, it is a brass blast!
Sunday Afternoon Jazz Series Kicks Off! On Sunday, beginning at 4:30pm, the Sunday Jazz Series kicks off at 189 Main in East Aurora with Phil Dire and Friends. Phil, on tenor sax, will have with him a power packed line up of George Caldwell on piano, Jim Colemon on bass, John Hasselback, Jr. on trombone, and John Bacon, Jr. on drums. It is going to be a powerful jazz showcase!
On Sunday, May 17, The Ben Levitt Trio with Jared Tinkham and David Phillips host the Historic Colored Musicians Club concert and open jam beginning at 6pm
Fabulous female jazz vocalist Nancy Kelly makes a visit to MusicalFare Premier Cabaret June 19th with her band she will perform with at the Rochester International Jazz festival. More news coming.
