JazzBuffalo Review: Pete And Will Anderson Trio Dazzles The Audience!

Anderson-Twins-18On Tuesday night, May 19th, it was a night of firsts in Buffalo.  The Pete and Will Anderson Trio kicked off their twenty plus city tour here in Buffalo at the Premier Cabaret Lounge at MusicalFare Theatre.  It also marked the first concert brought to you by a partnership between JazzBuffalo and MusicalFare.

What a concert it was.  These Julliard trained musicians dazzled the audience with precise musicianship; a high degree of technical abilities, and yet bringing warmth to their performance that imbued the soul.  Randy Kramer, Executive Director of MusicalFare put it best when exclaiming we get what Quincy Jones meant when he said “you have made my soul smile” when talking about these jazz artists.

The trio consisted of Pete and Will Anderson on tenor and alto saxophones along with each taking turns on the clarinet.  Joining them was a young emerging jazz guitarist star in the vast galaxy of jazz guitarist.  The star of Gabe Schneider shined bright yesterday with an amazing full body sound from his guitar.  His guitar licks were the perfect accompaniment to this unique jazz trio.

From the moment you heard the first songs of Willow Weep For Me, Speak Low, and Polka Dot, you were captivated by their command of the instruments and clarity of tone.   The melodic and harmonic purity of each song was on display in the most beautiful way.

Highlights of the night included two originals by the Anderson brothers in Déjà vu and Devil’s Advocate.  They performed each song in the style of jazz standards with fascinating rhythms.   Gabe Schneider also soloed on a 3-part melody tribute to Fats Waller on guitar magnificently.  Dizzy Gillespie’s Manteca allowed for Will Anderson to show his rhythmic style on flute.

The trio closed with Cherokee.  By this time, you were smiling wide ear-to-ear and quite in awe of their masterful command to play with varying speeds.  The intimate setting provided the perfect audience experience for this trio.  No doubt, everyone left smiling and the soul feeling mighty good!
