Buffalo gets a visit this week from one of the world’s most renowned avant-garde jazz and experimental music composer. Another example of the growing magnet the city is becoming for both international and regional jazz artists. Jazz awareness and fan appreciation is spreading in Buffalo!
Hallwalls Contemporary Arts Center is hosting this week internationally celebrated jazz avant-garde artist Elliott Sharp. A noted guitarist and composer, he will be here on a three-day residency. Hallwalls notes that Elliott Sharp’s visit will feature “collaboration with the local collective known as the Buffalo Improvisers Orchestra (BIO). Mr. Sharp & BIO will perform live in concert in the beautiful Montante Cultural Center on Friday, October 9th 2015. The program will feature Sharp's original compositions, including animated graphic scores projected on a large screen behind the ensemble. Mr. Sharp will also conduct a workshop with music students at Buffalo Academy for Visual & Performing Arts.”

The concert performance is scheduled for Friday, October 9 beginning 8pm at the Montante Cultural Center. While avant-garde is not for everyone, there is no doubting this is one special visit and unique collaboration, which will result in one unique night.

On Thursday, October 8th at Pausa Art House beginning at 8pm you can catch the duo Authentic Vibes, which will feature Ray Bennett on vibes and Steve Parisi on piano. The duo formed many years ago when inspired by the Chick Corea/Gary Burton collaboration.
On Friday, October 9th at Saigon Café at 9pm see the Alfie Alessandra Duo with Phil The Jazz Example led by Doug “Trigger” Gaston continues their Friday night performances at the Anchor Bar beginning at 8pm
Oliver’s Restaurant features George Jones on piano with All Hands beginning at 7pm on Saturdays
See Sol Y Sombra, Latin jazz, at the Anchor Bar on Saturday’s beginning at 8pm.
See the Fredtown Stompers Sunday, October 11th at 5pm at Sean Patricks
On October 23rd, see the production of Quiet Nights: Bossa Nova and Jazz Samba at MusicalFare Premier Cabaret Lounge with Mary McMahon on vocals, Bobby Jones on piano, Ralph Fava on guitar, Bud Fadale on bass, Abdul-Rahman Qadir on drums, and Tony Zambito on percussions
