Jazz takes center stage this weekend with two performances at MusicalFare Theatre Premier Cabaret Lounge and a youth jazz festival at the Riviera Theatre. We will also have jazz in the early evenings as well as the late evenings.
Reliving The Bossa Nova Era
On Friday, October 23rd at 8pm you can see the performance of Quite Nights: The Music of Jobim, Gilberto, Bossa Nova, and Jazz Samba. This is another JazzBuffalo and MusicalFare Theatre partnership production. Taking the stage to bring you the era of bossa nova will be Mary McMahon on vocals, Bobby Jones on piano, Ralph Fava on bass, Bud Fadale on bass, Abdul-Rahman Qadir on drums, and Tony Zambito on percussion. On the next night at MusicalFare Theatre Cabaret Lounge, see Katy Minor pay tribute to Judy Garland backed by top-level jazz artist in a sax line that includes Russ D’Alba, Ken Kurisack, and Harry Fackleman with Tim Clarke on trumpet, Phil Sims on trombone, Harry Graser on piano, Paul Zapolowski on bass, and Dan Hull on drums. On Sunday, October 25th at 5:30pm the next performance of the JazzBuffalo Sunday Jazz Series takes place at 189 Public House in East Aurora. We have a special guest this time with national touring jazz vocalist Cindy Miller visiting us. Cindy is one of the most prolific and enrgetic singers of standards in the jazz mode you will see. She has performed with the likes of Gene Bertoncini and Hubert Laws. Cindy will be joined by Lisa Hasselback on keyboards, Wayne Moose on bass, and Dan Hull on drums. Support The Youth
On Saturday, October 24th, support the Music Is Arts Youth Jazz Festival taking place at the Riviera Theatre which will feature several of the area's high school jazz ensembles/bands. Mark Filsinger's Eleventet will also give a performance in support of the event. The event begins at 7pm with Admission of $10 adults and $5 student. A great way to support and encourage our youth to keep jazz alive in the future!

On Thursday, October 19th you can catch the Mark Filisinger Hot Trad 5 at Merge beginning at 7pm with Mark Filsinger on trumpet, Paul Zapolowski on bass, Jared Tinkham on guitar, Phil Sims on trombone, and Candace Thomas on drums.
On Friday, October 23rd see Katy Minor Quartet at the Roycroft Inn in East Aurora.
On Friday, October 23rd beginning 8pm at Pausa Art House see the jazz/experimental music group Genkin Philharmonic for an evening of music by King Crimson, Frank Zappa, Bela Bartok, Radiohead, Stravinsky, Captain Beefheart, and Led Zeppelin. See the Leimgruber/Demierre/Lonberg-Holm Trio on Wednesday, October 28th at Hallwalls beginning at 8pm. Yet, another world renowned avant-garde and free jazz groups playing to international acclaim.
