The next JazzBuffalo Sunday Jazz Series concert, organized in partnership with 189 Public House, takes place on Sunday, November 15th beginning at 5:30 pm. Featured will be the versatile and dynamic vocalist Katy Miner backed by the Phil Sims Jazz Quartet.
First we are excited to present vocalist Katy Miner, who brings a diverse yet rich repertoire of singing experience in jazz, musical theatre, Broadway, pop, and the Great American Songbook. This includes singing with the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra. Katy has appeared in several musicals in recent years, as well as, performing at MusicalFare Cabaret Lounge in productions featuring the songs of Gershwin and Judy Garland.
Katy Miner’s journey in music has taken her to the west coast and back to Buffalo over the past two decades. Performing locally in various settings as the Katy Miner Quartet and with the Phil Sims Jazz Quartet. Here is Katy performing a beautiful version of Blue Skies last year with Bobby Militello on flute:
Sharing the stage will be the Phil Sims Quartet. Phil Sims has a long history in WNY music as a musician, composer, arranger, and conductor. Noted for his orchestrations, Phil has also led the Buffalo Brass Band and contributed orchestrations to other big bands. Joining Phil, who plays trombone and keyboards, will be the exceptional musicians Warren Stirtzinger on guitar, Tom Kasperek on drums, Paul Zapalowski on bass.
Sunday the 15th of November promises to be a special event when you combine this much talent on one stage. Put this on your calendar as a not to be missed concert!
Special Sunday Series Event In December!
In December, the first season of the JazzBuffalo Sunday Jazz Series will close out with a special concert. It is being billed as the 3 Tenors, which will feature Phil DiRe, Bobby Militello, and Dave Schiavone all on tenor saxophone. Joining in this unique event will be celebrated pianist George Caldwell. Mark your calendar for December 13th beginning at 6 pm. More news will follow soon.
I wish to thank Clark Crook and 189 Public House for this unique partnership in supporting jazz music in WNY. Look for the JazzBuffalo Sunday Jazz Series to return in April of 2016, after a winter hiatus, with another exciting line-up of jazz performances.
