A big weekend and week of jazz awaits us all. The return home of a jazz legend and the showcasing of some of the best jazz talents greater Buffalo has to offer. The weather may be dreary and rainy outdoors but jazz will shine brightly indoors in the city.
Joe Ford Returns For a Home Visit
The legendary jazz saxophonist great with roots in Buffalo makes a visit home. Ford’s journey from Buffalo has taken him to being an integral part of the McCoy Tyner projects and Grammy Awards and nominations. He will be making three appearances. You will find Joe Ford this week at these three appearances:
At Pausa Art House on Thursday, November 12th at 8 pm with the Buffalo Jazz Octet
At Villa Maria College at 11:00am for the M&T Noon Series
At the Historic Colored Musicians Club on Friday, November 13th at 8 pm with Bobby Jones, Darryl Washington, and Sabu Adeyola (there also be a B3 Hammond Organ dedication in memory of Ben York)

Herbie Small Performs

Katy Miner With The Phil Sims Jazz Quartet
The next Sunday Jazz Series event at 189 Public House takes place on Sunday, November 15th beginning at 5:30pm. The concert will feature versatile vocalist Katy Miner with The Phil Sims Jazz Quartet. Free jazz enthusiasts take note. Drummer Chris Corsano & guitarist Bill Nace (aka Vampire Belt) are on tour in support of a new LP Unfit Structures and will perform with Steve Baczkowski at Dreamland in Buffalo celebrating their new trio LP Stolen Car, released earlier this year on Golden Lab Records. Chris Corsano (drums), Steve Baczkowski (saxophones), Bill Nace (guitar, electronics), Jason Finkbeiner (guitar), and Martin Freeman (synthesizer, electronics) – $6-10 admission
On Saturday, November 14th beginning at 1pm you can see Jazzline with Dennis Warne, Jennie Jones, and Marc Cousins
On Sunday, November 15th beginning at 7:30pm the Max Hatt/Edda Glass Duo stop in the Buffalo area as part of their tour. They will be performing at the C. Cee Wright Community Center in Akron, NY. Here is how they are described: Max Hatt / Edda Glass features an evocative voice, ethereal guitar, and original folk-jazz compositions. “We want to write about a world both intimate and vast, about little people on great plains,” says Glass. “Plus sometimes we like to throw in a little Bossa Nova.” Here is a video to give you a listen:

On Tuesday, November 17th beginning at 7pm you can see the Original River Dogs at the Shannon Pub for New Orleans Night. With Tim Clarke, Paul Preston, John Werrick, Warren Stirrtzinger, Tom Kasperek, and Ray Skalski
Every Thursday, the Freehand Trio with Adam Brownstein on guitar, Damone Jackson drums, and Brian DeJesus on bass are taking up residence at The Sterling on Hertel beginning at 7pm.
