As 2015 draws to a close, we can revel a bit in the continued resurgence of jazz in Greater Buffalo. While the schedule of available jazz may be light on this holiday weekend, the memories of a fantastic year in jazz will live on.
Jazz In Town
Our inventive cast of rising stars in jazz are at it again in terms of creating multi-bands events. If you can keep up with the late hours, check out Hangover Jazz on Friday, January 1st beginning at 10 pm at Nietzsche’s. The bands will include The Duo+, Jon Lehning Quartet, Negative Good, and the Einat Agmon Trio.
On Sunday, January 3rd beginning at 8:30 pm at Nietzsche’s, see the Jazz Cache’ Resolution with Ben Levitt, David Phillips, Jared Tinkham, and special guest Matt Michaud.
On Sunday, January 3rd beginning at 6 pm at the Historic Colored Musicians Club, catch the Queen City Mission, which will feature Jacob Jay (Trumpet), Dalton Chavez Sharp (Saxophone), Jake Malone-Brancato (Keys), Zack Steinberg (Bass), and Stephen Lattimore (Drums). This band makes their premier performance. After the first hour, the CMC jazz jam to follow.
On Saturday, January 2nd at 4 pm at Hot Mama’s Canteen you see Dr. Jazz at 4 pm.
See the Jazz Example at their weekly Friday spot at the Anchor Bar beginning at 8 pm.
See Kevin Doyle led Sol Y Sombra, Latin jazz, at the Anchor Bar on Saturday’s beginning at 8 pm.
See pianist George Jones with bassist Bill Stiebel and drummer John Bacon, Jr. at Oliver’s every Saturday beginning at 8 pm.
A reminder that the Joe Baudo Big Band performs every Tuesday at the Sportsmen Tavern from 12 pm to 2 pm.
