It may be a light week of jazz but there is always good jazz to find.
On Thursday, March 3rd beginning at 8 pm, Star People – The Miles Davis Project returns to Pausa Art House. Led by pianist and arranger George Caldwell, the band continues to explore the music of Miles Davis and the resulting influences. Look for the stellar troupe of players Bobby Militello on alto sax, Tim Clarke on trumpet, John Bacon Jr. on drums, and others as this legend of jazz is explored.
For something different and more of a dinner show format, see Sugar Katty Kool featuring Sydnie Perkins, Katy Miner, and Carolyn Lansom as they cover jazz standards and nostalgia swing music. On Saturday, March 19th at the Center for the Arts at UB see Rudresh Mahanthappa's Bird Calls project, which features the alto sax performer/composer leading a band in original compositions influenced by Charlie Parker. The album of the same name, Bird Calls, garnered the best album award from Downbeat Magazine's International Critics Poll.
