Jazz In Town: Ending May On A Jazz Note

An incredible month of jazz winds down this week.  The Greater Buffalo area was treated to tremendous international and local talent.    

Highlights

ResAUnance: Migration CD release:  Thursday, May 26th at 8 pm at Pausa Art House

This is an avant-garde quartet performing contemporary improvisational music with more form than you may think.  The concert commemorates the CD release of Migration from FMR Records.  The quartet consists of piano: Michael McNeill & voice: Esin Gunduz & vibraphone, percussion, drums: John Bacon Jr. & electric cello: Jonathan Golove.

Rick Strauss Weekend: Trio Merge, Friday, May 27th at 7 pm at Merge and For Peace Quartet, Saturday, May 28th at 8 pm at Pausa Art House 

Rick Strauss is one of the area’s top guitarists.  Guitarist for early classic Spyro Gyra songs, Strauss has had an illustrious career in composing, musical direction, and producing.  This includes the release of two albums on the Projazz label.

Trio merge.001Rick Strauss will be at Merge on Friday, May 27th  at 7 pm with Bud Fadale on bass and Tony Zambito on percussion for two hours of jazz guitar.

 

 

 

 

 

 

For peace quartet may 28On Saturday, May 28 you can catch the For Peace Quartet at Pausa Art House at 8 pm, which will Feature Rick Strauss with George Caldwell on piano, Bud Fadale on bass, and Abdul-Rahman Qadir on drums.

A reminder that Wednesday Night Jazz happens weekly at Mezza beginning at 6:30 pm hosted by bassist Wayne Moose.  This week (May 25th) see violinist E.J. Koeppel and guitarist George Kane join bassist Wayne Moose.

On Saturday, Mary 28th from 1 pm to 4 pm is Brunch and Beats at Hot Mama's Canteen with the Mela Duo

Nietzsche's monday happy hourBeginning in this month of May and through the summer, Nietzsche’s on Allen will host a Summer Happy Hour Series on Mondays from 5:30 pm to 7:30 pm.  Click on the photo for the schedule of the dates and performers throughout the summer

A reminder that the Joe Baudo Big Band performs every Tuesday at the Sportsmen Tavern from 12 pm to 2 pm.

Walter kemp 3 oh

 

The Walter Kemp 3 Oh group will be having a special CD Release concert performance on June 17th at Hallwalls.  The band features Walter Kemp III on the piano, Rishon O'Del Nothington on bass, and David Teaspoon Hulett on drums.
