Accepting The Role As Music Director Of The Lewiston Jazz Festival

Footer-logoThe expression “you have big shoes to fill” came to mind when the Lewiston Jazz Festival Board, of which I served on this past year, put my name in nomination to serve as the new Music Director for the festival.  I warmly accepted this responsibility this past week and I look forward to building upon the continuing success of the festival.  (I will be serving in this role in addition to serving as Executive Director for JazzBuffalo – Greater Buffalo Jazz Society).

After 15 years of dedicated service and contributions to the Lewiston Jazz Festival, musician, band leader, arranger, teacher, and jazz legend Ron Corsaro retired from this role.  Ron’s contributions, since the inception of the jazz festival, are many and immeasurable.  He tirelessly spearheaded the effort to provide high-quality jazz music during the annual two-day festival.  Certainly, an instrumental reason why the festival has enjoyed evolving success throughout the years.  And, garnered recognition as one of the top 50 jazz festivals in the country.

Please join me in giving big thanks to one of the pillars of the jazz community here in Western New York for his outstanding and passionate work on behalf of the Lewiston Jazz Festival!

As mentioned, these will be big shoes to fill.  My intent will be to build upon the high standards of jazz music programming the festival presents each year.   And, to contribute towards bringing to the festival goers and audiences nothing short of the best in jazz music performances.  It is our hope, as the Lewiston Jazz Festival Organization and Board, that we will continue to meet the artistic vision of high-quality jazz programming.  Creating an experience and destination for passionate jazz lovers throughout the Western New York region and beyond.

For jazz musicians interested in performing at the festival, please note that the application is available on the Lewiston Jazz Festival website here: Lewiston Jazz Festival Application.  I would like to also acknowledge that the festival organization is aware there have been technical problems with the online application submission.  This is currently being worked on and we hope for a resolution very soon.  As an interim alternative, if you are experiencing difficulty, you may submit the same to the following email address:

(Jazz musicians, please note that the submission and recruitment process for the 2017 jazz performance lineup is in progress.  No final contractual arrangements or bookings have taken place.  We apologize if there has been any confusion in this regard.  Final determination will be made by the Music Director and the Music Committee of the Lewiston Jazz Festival Board in the coming months.)

In closing, I am looking forward to working closely with the Lewiston Jazz Festival Organization and Board to further evolve the artistic vision of programming high-quality jazz for the festival.  Ensuring a high standard of artistic quality that leads to memorable experiences for jazz festival goers, audiences, and fans.

I look forward to seeing many of you at the 2017 Lewiston Jazz Festival!

Keep Jazz Alive In WNY!
