Jazz returns with a full slate of performances scheduled.  Leading up to Valentine’s Day, you will find the best jazz right here in Greater Buffalo.

Nick Finzer: Hear & Now CD Release, Saturday, February 11 at 8 pm at Pausa Art House

A promising and rising star in the jazz world, particularly the New York city scene makes an appearance here in Buffalo as part of his CD release tour of the CD Hear & Now.  Nick is a trombonist who expresses music in the context of our world today.  Below is one of his compositions entitled We, The People.  His trombone-led ensemble plays in the style of Dave Holland, Chirs Potter, and Dafnis Prieto.  Their focus on improvised music is refreshing and performed in the unique instrumentation of the trombone.  The ensemble will consist of Aaron Staebell,  Julian Garvue, and Danny Ziemann. Jazz In Town

Lindsey hollandOn Thursday, February 9 at 7 pm at Pausa Art House, you can see the trumpeter Rick Holland and his quartet, which will also feature the talented young vocalist and his daughter, Lindsey Holland. 

Andrew-weinzlerOn Friday, February 10 at 8 pm at Pausa Art House the Andrew Weinzler Quartet will perform.  The long-time saxophonist will perform with Bobby Jones, Jim Colemon, and John Bacon

On Frida, February 10 at 8 pm see the jazz funk organ duo of Ron Davis on organ and Dave Wasik on drums at 189 in East Aurora

On Saturday, February 11 at 7:30 pm head across the border to the Chrystal Chandelier Room in Chrystal Beach to catch the White Noise Project with Bill Bates on drums, Bob White on keyboard, and Walt Sopicki on guitar 

On Saturday, February 11 at 7:30 pm you can see My Cousin Tone' at the Pizza Plant on Sheridan and Transit Road

MCT at Lewiston Jazz FestivalOn Sunday, February 12th at 11 am, My Cousin Tone’ presents its 3rd Annual Valentine’s Day Jazz Brunch at the Irishman Pub and Eatery in Williamsville.  The 9-piece band will be performing until 2 pm.  Call for reservations!

On Sunday, February 12 at 2 pm Niagara Falls native and pianist Pete Malinverni returns to the area to perform at the Buffalo History Museum.

On Tuesday, February 14 at 7 pm The Truth will perform at the Allen Street Hardware as part of a Valentine’s Day celebration

Supporting A Good Cause

On Saturday, February 11th starting at 7:00 pm, its’ the Festival of Wine and Craft Beer to benefit the good works of Lutheran Charities.  Performing for the charity event will be triPayazzo with Andy Peruzzini on trumpet, Bernard Kunz on guitar, and special guest Dave Schiavone on sax.  The event takes place at Tewksbury Lodge 249 Ohio St. Buffalo 14204.  Entrance is $45 per person includes tastings, food, set of tasting glasses.  Raffles for restaurants and arts venues.

Maaria sebastion at meeting houseThe JazzBuffalo Jazz At The Meeting House Series will have Maria Sebastian with Ron Davis and Friends on Tuesday, February 21st.  

Kelly Bucheger's newest edition of What Would Mingus Do? will be performing a tribute to Dexter Gordon consisting of originals and some Gordon tunes at the Taylor Theatre in Lockport on February 25th aat 8 pm.

In February, Pausa Art House will have Elliott Scozzaro, Jacob Jay Quintet, My Cousin Tone', A Miami Valentine's Night, the Fredtown Stompers, and an event called Mardi Gras Groove

JAM_logo_verticalThis coming April will be another year of Jazz Appreciation Month and International Jazz Day.  JazzBuffalo will be partnering with Pausa Art House to host a series of 5 Saturday concerts in April to celebrate Jazz Appreciation Month.  Look for a musical focus on a CD revival, honoring the legacy of Charles Mingus, and an homage to Erroll Garner.   Stay tuned for more details!
