Jazz In Town: The Jazz Stars Are Out

Summer 2017 officially has begun and it is surely going to be filled with the sounds of jazz in the air.   Starry night and jazz go hand in hand!

JazzBuffalo Presents The Tierney Sutton Band, Saturday, June 24th at 8 pm at MusicalFare Theatre Premier Cabaret Lounge 

Tierney-sutton-band-4This Saturday, JazzBuffalo, in association with MusicalFare Theater, presents 8-time Grammy Nominee Tierney Sutton and the Tierney Sutton Band.  The performance, long sold-out, marks a momentous occasion for JazzBuffalo and the Premier Cabaret Lounge as the international jazz star takes the stage to perform from her Grammy Nominated album, The Sting Variations, as well as, other Grammy Nominated albums.  Sutton will be joined by Christian Jacobs on piano, Trey Henry on bass, and Ray Brinker on drums.  Read more about the Tierney Sutton event here on JazzBuffalo: Tierney Sutton.  Here is a clip of The Tierney Sutton Band and their unique arrangement of Fly Me To The Moon

 

I CALLED HIM MORGAN

I called him mogan posterLast week, JazzBuffalo, in collaboration with the Screening Room Cinema Cafe, premiered the outstanding documentary I CALLED HIM MORGAN.  "One of the BEST films of the year" -Esquire // Part jazz history, part true-crime tale, Kasper Collin’s new documentary employs extensive archival footage and new interviews to tell the tragic story of the magnificently talented trumpeter Lee Morgan.  You have just a 2 more chances to see this remarkable film.  A must-see for jazz appreciators, jazz history buffs, and jazz fans!

Jazz In Town

On Friday. June 23rd at noon, catch the jazz-fusion and soul fusion band Winelight at the M&T Plaza lunch series.

Cousins gardner duoOn Friday, June 23rd at 7 pm at Merge, see the Cousins-Gardner Duo + 1 featuring Marc Cousins on bass, Jim Gardner on keyboards, and guest Tony Zambito on percussion as the duo + 1 performs unique arrangements of tunes from Gershwin, the Beatles, Horace Silver, Phil Collins, and more.

Bobby militelloOn Friday, June 23rd at 7:30 pm, the Bobby Militello Quartet will perform the music of Dave Brubeck at the Kenan Center in Lockport.  Bobby’s tenure with Dave Brubeck lasted 30 years and Brubeck is a core part of the Bobby Militello Quartet repertoire.  If you miss them here, catch them at Pausa next week.

Three-Brothers-and-a-Distant-Cousin-300x161On Saturday, June 24th at 7:30 pm at the Roycroft Inn in East Aurora, you can catch the band Three Brothers and a Distant Cousin, which will feature a lineup led by trombonist Phil Sims with Kelly Bucheger, Andy Weinzler, Russ D’Alba, George Caldwell, Paul Zapalowski, and Dan Hull. 

Mct tappo correctOn Monday, June 26th at 6:30 pm at Tappo Restaurant, catch the 9-piece ensemble My Cousin Tone' on the rooftop patio with spectacular views, as well as, tightly arranged horns and ensemble jazz.  Jazz under the stars!

Paradigm shift at pausa.001On Friday, July 7th at Pausa Art House, JazzBuffalo is excited to present the Rochester-based organ jazz band Paradigm Shift, which will feature Melvin Henderson on guitar, Gerry Youngman on organ, and Sean Jefferson on drums.  Mark your calendars!

Upcoming at Pausa Art House in June will be the Beatles Jazz Quintet, Bobby Militello Quartet, and The Tim Clarke Trio

July is right around the corner and we will have the CMC Jazz Festival and the Pappy Martin Legacy Jazz Festival to enjoy, as well as, the kick-off of the Buffalo News Summer Jazz Series on the steps of the AKG with Freddy Cole.

Dave koz larry grahamJuly ends with a performance by the contemporary jazz duo of Dave Koz and Larry Graham.  Both are Grammy Nominated contemporary jazz and R&B artists with number one ranked albums on Billboard.  Look for them at the Riviera Theater on Sunday, July 30th at 8 pm with reserved seats available online at the Riviera Theater.

JazzBuffalo Presents International Jazz Artists

RFQ Revised.001On Sunday, August 13, one of the best gypsy jazz bands internationally will visit Buffalo for a night of gypsy jazz. The Rhythm Future Quartet is rewriting the book on gypsy jazz with innovative compositions and arrangements. Opening the show will be the Hot Club of Buffalo.  This show is already more than half-way reserved so act fast on reserving seats here: RFQ Reserve.  

In the fall, JazzBuffalo will be presenting the Julliard and New York City-based Pete and Will Anderson Trio, the highly-regarded Cuban-born and Julliard jazz pianist Elio Villafranca, alto sax legend Richie Cole, and the Joe Policastro Trio out of Chicago.  Stay tuned for more details soon.
