Jazz In Town: Celebrating Freedom Wth Jazz!

First, many thanks to those who attended one of the most memorable jazz concerts to take place in Buffalo with the appearance of the Tierney Sutton Band at MusicalFare Theatre Premier Cabaret Lounge.  Most definitely a highlight of the year.  

It is hard to believe we are celebrating the 4th of July holiday weekend!  There will be plenty of music indoors and outdoors that includes jazz!

Highlights 

4th of July Concert With The George Scott Big Band at Canalside at 7:3o pm

George scott big band july 4thThe annual appearance of the George Scott Big Band for the Canalside celebrations for the 4th of July is beginning to look like a Buffalo tradition.  The big band, led by the Historic Colored Musicians Club President, features some of the finest horn players and more – including singer Melissa Kate.  This event is a family-friendly way to celebrate the 4th with big band jazz!

Jazz In Town

On Thursday, June 29th beginning at 6 pm Music On Main in Williamsville continues and you will be able to find jazz ensemble My Cousin Tone’ on the corner of Main and Rock Street

On Thursday, June 29th  at Pausa Art House beginning at 7 pm you can experience jazz with a little twist and shout.  The Beatles Jazz Quintet will feature some of Buffalo’s rising stars performing the music of the Beatles with jazz arrangements.  The group will consist of Jared Tinkham – guitar, Anthony Henry – bass, Alec Dube – drums, Russ Carere – alto sax, Matt Harris – tenor sax, and special guest, Jillian Green – vocals

Intrepid travelers ep releaseOn Friday, June 30th at 8:00 pm join the jazz-funk and jazz fusion band Intrepid Travelers at Buffalo Iron Works for their “Everyday Is Your Birthday” EP Release Party.  The band has been together since 2013 and brings an improvisational blend of electronic and acoustic music to an enthusiastic audience. 

On Friday, June 30th at 8:00 pm, the Bobby Militello Quartet will perform as part of their monthly appearance at Pausa Art House

On Saturday, July 1st at 8:00 pm at Pausa Art House, see the Tim Clarke Trio with Tim Clarke on trumpet, George Kane on guitar, and Wayne Moose on bass as they perform classic jazz standards and traditional jazz. 

On Sunday, July 2nd at 9:00 pm the Jazz Cache makes their monthly first Sunday appearance at Nietzsche’s 

On Wednesday, July 5th, you can catch the Frank Gerard Quartet with jazz vocalist Cheryl Ferris at 7:30 pm at Mason's Grille in Hamburg

July 1st Jazz Brunch

Paradigm shift at pausa.001On Friday, July 7th at Pausa Art House, JazzBuffalo is excited to present the Rochester-based organ jazz band Paradigm Shift, which will feature Melvin Henderson on guitar, Gerry Youngman on organ, and Sean Jefferson on drums.  Henderson has performed with Dr. Lonnie Smith, Jack McDuff, and Al Jarreau while Youngman has performed with the likes of The Drifters, The Platters, and Marth Reeves.  Mark your calendars!

July will bring us the CMC Jazz Festival and the Pappy Martin Legacy Jazz Festival to enjoy, as well as, the kick-off of the Buffalo News Summer Jazz Series on the steps of the AKG with Freddy Cole.

Dave koz larry grahamJuly ends with a performance by the contemporary jazz duo of Dave Koz and Larry Graham.  Both are Grammy Nominated contemporary jazz and R&B artists with number one ranked albums on Billboard.  Look for them at the Riviera Theater on Sunday, July 30th at 8 pm with reserved seats available online at the Riviera Theater.

JazzBuffalo Presents International Jazz Artists

RFQ Revised.001On Sunday, August 13, one of the best gypsy jazz bands internationally will visit Buffalo for a night of gypsy jazz. The Rhythm Future Quartet is rewriting the book on gypsy jazz with innovative compositions and arrangements. Opening the show will be the Hot Club of Buffalo.  This show is already more than half-way reserved so act fast on reserving seats here: RFQ Reserve.  Less than 30 tickets available – do not miss out!

In the fall, JazzBuffalo will be presenting the Julliard and New York City-based Pete and Will Anderson Trio, the highly-regarded Cuban-born and Julliard jazz pianist Elio Villafranca, alto sax legend Richie Cole, and the Joe Policastro Trio out of Chicago.  Stay tuned for more details soon.

Jazz 100 fest pre.001In October, JazzBuffalo and Pausa Art House will team to host the Jazz 100 Festival running on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday 10-19 to 10/2.   The festival will celebrate the 100th birthdays of Ella Fitzgerald, Thelonious Monk, and Dizzy Gillespie.  Stay tuned for more details.
