Jazz In Town: Making Whoopie With Jazz

We get a brief respite before the next jazz festival takes place!  The Northwest Jazz Festival in Lewiston is in a little over two weeks.  Plenty of great jazz, however, will be around!

Highlights

JazzBuffalo Presents Eric Johnson Trio, Friday, August 11 at 8 pm at Pausa Art House

Eric johnson trio pausa.001Visiting us from Pittsburgh will be one of the legendary jazz guitarists in the modern jazz era. As a sideman, Eric Johnson has performed with Lou Donaldson, Stanley Turrentine, Jack McDuff, Jimmie McGriff and more.   Johnson credits George Benson, Wes Montgomery, and Grant Green as major influences in his style of playing.  Establishing a smooth but unmistakable jazz groove sound that is soulful, melodic, bluesy, and gives evidence to the influences mentioned above.   No doubt, a guitarist who belongs in the same legions of guitarists such as Benson, Green, and the likes of Pat Martino.  On this evening, Eric Johnson will be joined by another Pittsburgh native Ed Croft on bass, Robert Garrett on drums, and sitting in on percussion, Tony Zambito.  Here is the lead off tune from his much-acclaimed CD Makin’ Whoopie, Easy To Love where you can catch Johnson’s stylistic jazz grooves that will be – well – easy to love:
