Jazz Before / After Christmas
Saxophonist Elliott Scozzaro, who recently moved to Chicago, makes a holiday visit home and will make an appearance at Pausa Art House on Friday, December 22 at 8 pm. He will be joined by another ex-pat making a visit home, Alec Safy on bass. With George Caldwell, Mark Filsinger, and Mike Melito.
On Saturday, December 23 at 7 pm at Nickel City Frets in Akron see Carina and the Six String Preacher perform their contemporary sound plus Christmas tunes (with Carina Mastrantonio, Vincent Mastrantonio, and John Brady)
On Saturday, December 23 at 8 pm, you can catch the French ConeXion with Jeremy Spindler on accordion, Marc Cousins on bass, and Bernard Kunz on guitar (all natives of Europe by the way so authenticity happens here) perform their unique style of European gypsy, Argentinian, and Brazilian jazz.
On Sunday, December 24 at 8:30 pm on Christmas Eve at Nietzsche's, you can check out the trio of Greg Millar on guitar, Ben Levitt on bass, and David Phillips on drums with a possible appearance by Syl Dubenion visiting home for the holidays.
On Wednesday, December 27 at 9 pm at Nietzsche’s you can check out the hot jazz fusion band The Truth that features Ellen Pieroni on sax, Donny Frauenhofer on keyboards, and Adam Bronstein on guitar and check-out their modern style and sound. They will be followed later in the evening by Elliott Scozzaro and a gathering of friends’ home for the holidays.
A Couple Of Interesting "Beyond Jazz" Happenings
(On Thursday, December 21 at 7 pm you can experience a Marimba Recital by Jamie Sunshine, which includes selections from classical, jazz, and international world music. Jamie recently received her Master's Degree in Music from West Virginia University.)
( On Friday, December 22 at 10 pm at Nietzsche's you can catch a tribute to Frank Zappa – yes Zappa was into jazz and jazz fusion beginning in the late 60's. Led by Donny Frauenhofer on keyboards (from The Truth and Intrepid Travelers), the Donny Frauenhofer Band consisting of the younger generation of rising stars in jazz (Harry Graser, Alec Dube, Ellen Pieroni, etc) will perform the Censored by ZFT: A Tribute to Frank Zappa show. Being a big Zappa fan in the 70's, know this is ambitious – kudos)
(Be sure to check the Weekly Jazz on the JazzBuffalo website for ongoing jazz.)
