Jazz In Town: The Start Of A New Jazz Year

It is the start of another new year and we hope for more great jazz in 2018.  The weekend will be downright frigid according to weather forecasts.  A light week of music is ahead.  However, jazz will help to warm up the spirits.

Jazz And Beyond To Start The Year

TrombonesOn Thursday, January 4th at 7:30 pm at The Screening Room, you can see the Don Angelo Big Band conducted by Ben Boyer ($10 pre-sale and $12 at door)

On Thursday, January 4th at 8 pm see the Hot Club Express (Deano Gionis, guitar and E.J. Koeppel, violin) at Rohall’s Corner 

You can catch ex-pat Bill Todd and his Band of Good People during his time in his hometown on Friday, January 5 at 6 pm at Buffalo State and on Saturday, January 6 at 5 pm at Milkie's on Elmwood 

Renee’ and the Lost Boys will be at Belsito on Hertel Saturday, January 6 at 8:30 pm and feature vocalist Mariah Pizzaro with Mark Marinaccio, Tom Marinaro, and Geraldo Castillo.

Albright-Knox Art Gallery Art Of Jazz Series

Next up in the series is one of the true jazz piano legends of our time, Monty Alexander.  His career is highlighted by more than 70 recordings as a leader as well as work with artists including Frank Sinatra, Dizzy Gillespie, Tony Bennett, Ray Brown, and Quincy Jones. Set aside Sunday, January 28 at 3 pm for what will surely be a concert to remember. The first concert sold-out and this one will surely do so as well. Get your tickets soon here: Monty Alexander – Art of Jazz.  Alexander will be performing with two very notable sidemen.  (Hassan) J.J. Shakur on bass and Jason Brown on drums.  Below is Monty Alexander in a performance at the Blue Note in Milano, Italy performing two songs.  Do not delay in getting your tickets – this is must-see jazz!

It is certainly not too soon to also get your tickets for Grammy Nominated pianist Billy Childs (March 18) and the fast-rising star in jazz Melissa Aldana (April 21) appearing at the Albright-Knox Art Gallery Art of Jazz Series.  Get tickets here: AOJ
