Charles Earland was called The Mighty Burner for his prolific, high energy, groove style of playing the Hammond B3 organ. He lit up the jazz world in the 1970’s and 1980’s and put the sounds of organ jazz back in a prominent place in jazz. On the best-selling soul-jazz classic, the “Black Talk!” album of 1969 the original “The Mighty Burner,” and the hits “Aquarius” and “More Today Than Yesterday” received worldwide airplay. The Soul-Tet is a Buffalo-based Quintet that brings to life seldom-heard, groove-driven latin, hard bop, and soul-jazz tunes from the 1950’s to the early 1990’s. Arriving From New York City! The Dred Scott Trio has been performing in its present incarnation for more than twenty years. During that time the band has released 7 albums, all of them on Ropeadope Records. They have performed at the Newport Jazz Festival, the Friehoffer Jazz Festival, the Charlie Parker Jazz Festival and were the house band for the yearly AMFAR CINEMA AGAINST AIDS benefit at the Cannes Film Festival for 5 years. What a great and amazing show put on by Mark Marinaccio and Friends as they wowed the audience with “A Jazz Tribute To Michael Jackson”. Announced at the series were the remaining concerts, including the October and November dates:
- August 8 will feature The Buffalo Brass Machine for a New Orleans Night
- September 12 will feature the international jazz group The Philippe Lemm Trio
- Exciting to announce the show “Drea Sings Nina”, which will feature Drea d’Nur in a performance dedicated to Nina Simone on October 10th – Drea has performed to sold-out shows at Kleinhans and Albright-Knox Art Gallery performances dedicated to Nina Simone
- We will close out the 2nd season of this magnificent series on November 14th with “WBFO Night” as our partners from public radio join us – and – we will debut the JBFO Orchestra led by Mark Marinaccio and Tim Martin
