Last night, Buffalo got to know the sax giant from New York City, Jerry Weldon. If they did not know him before then, they sure do now! Weldon led his friends Carmen Intorre, Jr. on drums, Dino Losito on organ, and myself on percussion through a tour-de-force performance on the tenor saxophone at Pausa Art House.
Playing music mostly from his latest – and have to say – must-have CD “Those Were The Days”, the audience was treated to exciting jazz arrangements of originals and familiar tunes such as “Stranger in the Night” and “Love Won’t Let Me Wait”. Weldon is a sight to see when he plays as he moves rhythmically with the music. He is a true jazz master and the audience couldn’t get enough.
Intorre, Jr. put on a jazz drumming clinic for his hometown audience. Displaying why the likes of jazz guitarist Pat Martino and organist Joey DeFrancesco make Carmen their go-to drummer. Dino Losito was magnificent on the organ and displayed why his incredible balance and ability to bring artistic prowess to the organ has him in demand.
A great night of jazz for Buffalo!
Our friend of JazzBuffalo, photographer Jack Zuff, was hand to capture some great moments. Enjoy the gallery!
