Jazz In Town: A New Normal Takes Hold

One week later, we are living in a new normal that none of us welcome.  However, our civic duty calls for us to make sacrifices for the good of our society.  Right down to the local level, we all must engage in doing our part to prevent the spread of COVID19.

As this is written this morning, it is important to stress to our next generation of jazz musicians that there is increasing evidence from the CDC that the population age group of 20-44 are being hospitalized at an alarming rate – higher than any other age group.  The societal duty upon this age group has now increased twofold.   Not only to protect the vulnerable as spreaders but also to protect themselves.  We need you as the next generation.

On a related note, there has been a rush to do live streaming.  We get it and understand.  The anxiety of lost income is severe and recognized for independent jazz artists across the region.  Importantly though, a rush to gather at public establishments to do live streaming is not the answer now nor in the next few weeks as we face a critical inflection point in combating COVID19.  Please stay home and live stream from home.  Think solos, duos, or trios and using an iPhone is very okay.   Provide information on how we all can support you.

JazzBuffalo is here to support such approaches.  Here is our first featured event featuring a live stream done from the safety of a home.
