JazzBuffalo Takeout Music: “Les Feuilles Mortes” by Carina and The Six String Preacher

In a March 24 article about Carina and The Six String Preacher, we wrote of their endeavors in creating music videos. With the pandemic having us staying home, the trio continues to use video as a creative outlet. We share their latest music video in this new JazzBuffalo Takeout Music feature.

In this “Quarantine Jam,” they tackle “Les Feuille Mortes,” the 1945 french song written by Yves Montand. The song was released commercially in 1950 by Cora Vaucaire and caught the attention of Johnny Mercer. Mercer wrote the English lyrics for the song and gave it the English title of “Autumn Leaves.” The singer Jo Stafford then preceded to make the first English-language recording of the Johnny Mercer version in July of 1950.

Carina and The Six String Preacher are Carina Mastrantonio, vocals, Vince Mastrantonio, guitar, and Erik Eimiller, drums.

In this JazzBuffalo Takeout Music pick, Carina and The Six String Preacher give the song a remarkable French flavor in a unique rendition.
