Living through the times of the coronavirus pandemic has found many of us in moments of isolation. Staying at home during the spring and staying physically distant as much as possible this summer when outdoors. Causing us at times to feel alone yet knowing that you are in community with others.
Donny Frauenhofer, one of the area’s talented next-generation musicians and composers, tapped into this unique feeling recently to pen a new composition titled “A Spirit.” A melodically striking tune that captures the essence of reflecting on this phenomenon unique to the pandemic. Here is how Frauenhofer articulates the thoughts behind his most recent composition:
“The title refers to the sensation of being alone but feeling like you aren’t. I wrote the song one night during quarantine when I felt this mood and wanted to try and capture that.”
He further stated:
“Whether you call it a muse, a ghost, a spirit, a God, a manifestation of your own subconscious – sometimes things that seem separate from ourselves visit us to deliver a message. This song is both the product of that and expresses that feeling.”
Undoubtedly, many of us have felt this sensation that Donny Frauenhofer is referring to. The title of the song reflects on this sensation. An unexplained yet palpable spiritual connection.
The song is performed by The Donny Frauenhofer Trio. The trio features Frauenhofer on keyboards, Colin Brydalski on bass, and Isaiah Griffin on drums. Brydalski and Griffin bring the tune together with an impressive bass line and improvisational rhythms on drums.
