In the early 90s, Paradigm Shift was born in Rochester, NY to bring spirit back to neo-jazz with organic, funky grooves and street-level ambiance. Bandleader Melvin Henderson and co-founder Gerry Youngman grew up in the golden age of jazz clubs: simmering hotbeds of grit and soul. In an era of turmoil and enormous social change, Henderson and Youngman spent their formative years watching and listening to…

Mary Ramsey and Friends at Jazz at Chandlerville
Critically acclaimed singer, songwriter, violin/violist Mary Ramsey of the 10,000 Maniacs appears for a live performance at Jazz at Chandlerville that will explore jazz standards, gypsy jazz, the classical music repertoire as well as Mary Ramsey’s original compositions. The indie-rock world may know her as the vocalist for the post-Natalie incarnation of 10,000 Maniacs, but the violist, violinist, vocalist, and songwriter has had a long and distinguished career aside from that group playing jazz, classical, and folk music. https://youtu.be/ycsTtkcRuFo Mary Ramsey was born…

Remembering Richie Merlo
With great sadness, we learned of the passing of jazz trumpeter, vocalist, and Buffalo Music Hall of Fame lifetime achievement awardee, Richie Merlo, at the age of 79. Merlo was one of Buffalo’s most significant entertainers and jazz contributors. In his early days, performing in many of the clubs that existed with a repertoire of songs and instrumentals. He now joins his all-star jazz friends in the heavens. Many thoughts and prayers to the Merlo family and the multitude of friends Richie made in his lifetime. It was always a joy to see him at JazzBuffalo events as well.
