Jazz Night In America Produce Stirring Tribute To Jazz Legends We Lost In 2021

In the past year, the effect of Covid-19, natural causes, aging, and health-related issues all contributed to the worldwide jazz community experiencing the loss of over 50 departed legends. In the JazzBuffalo community, 2021 saw the loss of three jazz icons with roots in Buffalo. NEA jazz master Dr. Lonnie Smith, legendary bassist Arthur “Juini” Booth, and Sirius XM jazz radio host Eulis Cathey left us in 2021. Each had a significant impact not only on jazz in Buffalo but universally through their inspirational work and creations.

Jazz Night in America collaborated with the husband and wife team of John and Sachi Patitucci to produce a tribute to those we said goodbye to in 2021. John, one of jazz’s extraordinary bassists, and Sachi, the notable cellist, perform a moving song entitled, “One More Angel”, in a video tribute. “One More Angel” is an original composition composed by the couple. The video was filmed in the showroom at Upton Bass String Instrument Co. in Mystic, Connecticut.

The video is below for viewing. A moving tribute that honors such jazz icons as Chick Corea, Barry Harris, George Wein, and many more.
