The Northwest Jazz Festival in Historic, Lewiston, NY will mark its return after a two-year hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Scheduled to take place on Friday, August 26, and Saturday, August 27, the festival will consist of five stages and 30 performances by close to 130 musicians. Recently, the festival announced its lineup for the Main Headliner Stage to include Joey DeFrancesco, Stacey Kent, Emmet Cohen, Allison Au, Sally Terrell, John di Martino, and Corinne Mammana.

Charlie Ballantine

In addition to the Main Headliner Stage, four stages will present twenty-five performances featuring local, regional, and national jazz artists.   Highlighting the schedule will be a performance on Friday, August 26 on the Center Street Stage by the jazz guitarist from Indianapolis, Charlie Ballantine, and his quartet. Ballantine has reached wide acclaim with his “The Music of Bob Dylan” album and last year’s “The Music of Thelonious Monk” album. Jazz pianist and UB professor George Caldwell, who won a Grammy as a member of the Count Basie Orchestra in 1997, will bring his sextet to the Center Street Stage on Saturday, August 27. The festival will also present for the first time Hanna PK, who was a semi-finalist in the 2019 International Blues Challenge in Memphis, TN, and whose recent album debuted at #13 on the Billboard Blues Chart. Returning from a 2019 performance will be the award-winning organ trio, Paradigm Shift.

Continuing an initiative started in 2017, the festival will shine a spotlight on the youth with performances by Matt’s Vocal Performance Team on the Center Street Stage on Friday, August 26.   The Peace Garden Stage this year will highlight contemporary and international music.  The DiCamillo Courtyard Stage will have a focus on jazz guitar duos while the Frontier House Stage will present notable trios and quartets.
