(Photo – the jazz legend saxophonist Gary Bartz can be seen this weekend in Buffalo)
Sometimes, there are those times when it seems the stars en masse fall onto Buffalo. This is one week ahead that is one of those times. Wynton Marsalis and the Jazz at the Lincoln Center Orchestra hit UBCFA. Legendary saxophonist Gary Bartz, whose roots are playing with Miles Davis and Art Blakely and Jazz Messengers, will be here. Notable former Bad Plus pianist and leader of his fantastic Captain Black Big Band finds his way to Buffalo. One of the top Gypsy Jazz performers Stephane Wrembel makes an appearance. And finally, the rare finger-strutting French guitarist Pierre Bensusan will be in an intimate church setting. Read the JazzBuffalo picks below and click through to get all the details!

Art of Jazz Series Subscription
It is time to get your subscription for a fabulous 2022-2023 Art of Jazz Series season ahead beginning on November 11, 2022. This season, we will focus on the art of composition. First up is the pianist, composer, arranger, and jazz star, Amina Figarova.
“…Many of the strongest composer-arranger-orchestra leaders in jazz are women. Think Toshiko Akiyoshi, Carla Bley, Maria Schneider. Amina Figarova has a chance to join their company. All she needs is an orchestra. Figarova’s compositions for small ensembles have been brilliant since at least 2005 when she released September Suite, still the deepest, most powerful jazz response to the events of 9/11…” by Thomas Conrad for Stereophile Magazine
