Return of Jazz Jams Brings Musicians and Community Together

When the Covid 19 pandemic arrived in early 2020, many types of impromptu music jams were forced to the sidelines. We saw some “virtual” jams take place online as well as creative arranging. Yet, nothing could replace the spontaneity of musicians coming together to jam. And, this was especially true for jazz jams.

Jazz jams have lent themselves to spontaneity and improvisation since the dawn of jazz. Providing a means for jazz musicians to meet others, build chemistry, and take exploratory chances while mastering their craft. For audiences, it can be a unique view of how jazz is created and for the unexpected to happen.

Lately, we are seeing a return of jazz jams in Buffalo. Coinciding with the arrival of musicians returning home to Buffalo after stints in other cities and the maturation of a new generation of jazz musicians reshaping the jazz scene in Buffalo.

Jazz Vocalist Becky Davis has reorganized a monthly Monday Jazz Jam at the Gypsy Parlor on the West Side of Buffalo. Dedicated in memory of Einat Agmon, you can this jam on the first Monday of each month.
