JazzBuffalo Community and the City of Buffalo to Celebrate International Jazz Day With Focus on Unity

In what has become one of the most important annual days for jazz each April 30th, this Sunday we once again celebrate International Jazz Day. This year marks the 5th Annual International Jazz Day to be hosted by JazzBuffalo. The all-day event will run from 1:00 pm to 7:30 pm at Seneca One Tower in the Seneca One Auditorium and the Seneca One Lobby Bar and Grill area (the Seneca One Lobby Bar & Grill will be open from 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm with a limited grill menu).
(Please note, this is an indoor event, not one of our annual summer Jazz on the Plaz! outdoor concerts.)
The International Jazz Day Celebration is free with registration available for seats in the Seneca One Auditorium. Registrants will have access to the Seneca One Auditorium for the scheduled performances. Once all seats are reserved, we invite the community to a “jazz hang-out” in the lobby area. We’ll be monitoring if seats open up throughout the day.
At 4 pm, the Big Screen in the lobby area will broadcast the annual Global Concert led by Herbie Hancock and feature an all-star parade of some of the biggest stars in jazz.
A central reason why we have made the event free is to foster one of the key themes of International Jazz Day. Which is UNITY. Jazz music has historically brought people of different cultures and backgrounds together. On this special day, we hope to make this central element of the celebration present throughout the day. To be joined together in unity and peace as we celebrate the ability of jazz to create a universal bond for all of us.
