Buffalo Jazz Festival Recap: A Great Day For Spectacular Jazz and Joyous Community!

A Day To Remember For The People and Community of Buffalo!

It was a glorious day filled with sunshine, joyous gatherings, dancing, and superb jazz music at the 2nd Annual Buffalo Jazz Festival. This special event brought our community together as one, allowing us to revel in the backdrop of the iconic cultural landmark, the Richardson Towers.

The Buffalo Jazz Festival, presented by JazzBuffalo, became a reality thanks to the generous support of JazzBuffalo, Richardson Hotel Buffalo, the Richardson-Olmsted Campus, and the Douglas Development Corporation. Our deepest gratitude goes to our primary media sponsor, Buffalo Rising, as well as the media coverage provided by WIVB-Ch. 4 and WKBW-Ch. 7.

Superb sound and production were provided by JazzBuffalo contributor Mark Percy and his colleagues Bill Ross and Gerry Krayenvenger. Mark executed a two-stage approach that ensured the music flowed with minimal interruption. We were also delighted to have JazzBuffalo contributor and photographer Jack Zuff on site to capture the memories of this fantastic day.

The lively and engaged audience had the privilege of enjoying five outstanding performances, primarily featuring our incredibly talented next-generation jazz performers from the region. We also had a special appearance by the crowd-favorite in the annual JazzBuffalo Poll for Latin Jazz, the Wendell Rivera Latin Jazz Ensemble. Not to mention our special guest from New York City, saxophonist Mike Troy.

The Jay Sharptet performed beautiful originals and we were treated to the surprise vocals of Dalton Sharp!

The Lindsey Holland Quintet is an outstanding quintet of our next-generation jazz performers showcasing the marvelous vocals of Lindsey Holland!

Donny Frauenhofer Herbie Hancock Experience gave the audience a masterful treat of Herbie Hancock favorites such as “Butterfly” and “Tell Us A Bedtime Story.” Proving once again why Frauenhofer is voted as favorite Jazz Fusion in the annual JAzzBuffalo Poll!

Wendell Rivera Latin Jazz Ensemble once again brought the dancing spirit to the Richardson streets! Superb musicality that brought the audience and people to their feet!

The closing performance feature the Troy Brothers Organ Quintet. A stellar performance and a treat to hear John Troy and Mike Troy reunite in a performance. Truly magnificent it was!
