Diego Rivera, the extraordinary saxophonist, is gearing up to debut his newest album, “With Just A Word,” during the upcoming Art of Jazz Series on February 4th at the Buffalo AKG Art Museum. Scheduled for release on February 2nd, this album promises to be a remarkable journey filled with soulful melodies and captivating improvisations. Rivera’s unparalleled saxophone skills and his distinctive fusion of traditional jazz and contemporary arrangements shine through, making each track a compelling narrative that resonates with human emotions. The new album is a dedication to remembering friends and family along his musical life journey.

During the Art of Jazz Series concert, Rivera will also premiere commissioned work by Chamber Music America with a stellar all-star ensemble featuring Art Hirahara on piano, Boris Koslov on bass, Etienne Charles on trumpet, and Rudy Royston on drums.

Diego Rivera, a world-class musician, composer, arranger, and educator, has been captivating audiences for over two decades. Known for his unique blend of mainstream jazz and Latino-inspired music, Rivera infuses traditional Mexican-heritage rhythms into his compositions. Currently directing the Jazz Studies program at The University of Texas at Austin, Rivera’s Mexican-American heritage significantly influences his artistic endeavors. With an impressive touring career, he has graced stages worldwide, collaborating with renowned artists such as Kurt Elling and Ellis Marsalis.

Rivera’s illustrious discography includes acclaimed albums like “Love & Peace,” “Mestizo,” “Indigenous,” and “Connections.” His arranging work for Jazz at Lincoln Center’s “Motor City Jazz” concert and dedication to jazz education have earned him prestigious accolades, including the Dortha J. and John D. Withrow Teaching Award.
