The Northwest Jazz Festival in Lewiston, NY, is thrilled to present a special program, “Accentuate the Positive,” on Saturday, August 24th, at 8:30 PM. This evening promises an unforgettable celebration of the Great American Songbook, featuring some of the finest jazz talents today.

Celebrate The Great American Songbook at the Northwest Jazz Festival

Taking inspiration from Bing Crosby’s 1944 hit song, “Accentuate the Positive,” the program celebrates the music that comforted and connected Americans through challenging times. Audiences will be treated to renditions of classics such as “Pennies From Heaven,” “I’ve Got A Crush On You,” “Sunny Side of the Street,” “I’ve Got You Under My Skin,” and “Honeysuckle Rose.” These timeless tunes and others served as the soundtrack of resilience and hope during the Great Influenza Epidemic, the World Wars, Prohibition, and the Great Depression.

Accentuate the Positive

“After what the arts community has endured over the past few years, there’s a lot to feel down about,” says Suzanne Waldowski Roche, Executive Director of Jazz at the Ballroom. “But our celebration of the American Songbook is all about finding the silver lining and accentuating the positive. These songs remind us of the resilience and joy inherent in the human spirit.”
