Experience Cabaret Weekend from October 24 to October 26
Buffalo is set to experience a special “Cabaret Weekend” from October 24 to October 26, featuring three nights of exciting performances that honor the rich tradition of cabaret and the timeless music of the American Songbook.
Kicking off the weekend, “Swinging Cool” features the dynamic jazz vocalist Vanessa Vacanti at Pausa Art House on Thursday, October 24 at 7 pm. This new program, introducing Vacanti, will take audiences on a melodic journey through the iconic era of swing and cool jazz.
On Friday, October 25, the celebration continues at the Richardson Hotel Buffalo with My Cousin Toné Celebrates the Great American Songbook. The 8-piece ensemble, featuring vocalist Kathy Carr, will bring to life the classic tunes and composers such as Cole Porter, George and Ira Gershwin, and Irving Berlin that defined the American Songbook, starting at 7:30 pm.
Rounding out the weekend, on Saturday, October 26, Alex McArthur takes the stage at MusicalFare Theatre Cabaret Lounge with her program, “Songs of Change”. Beginning at 8 pm, this performance will delve into the transformative songs that shaped American music.
The weekend is curated by Randy Kramer, Executive Director of MusicalFare Theatre, and Tony Zambito, Executive Director of JazzBuffalo, coinciding with the 35th Annual Cabaret Convention held in New York City by The Mabel Mercer Foundation. In a collaborative spirit, Kramer and Zambito invited Lazara Martinez of Pausa Art House to participate in this special weekend, bringing Buffalo a unique opportunity to showcase its local and regional talent. This celebration highlights the vibrant and diverse artistry of cabaret songs and the American Songbook, offering Buffalo a chance to honor the rich musical tradition of these unique styles of music.
