Celebrating the Groundbreaking Album by Miles Davis
JazzBuffalo is thrilled to help sponsor a special edition of Classic Vinyl Live with Jeff Miers and what promises to be an unforgettable night of music on Monday, October 7th, at Sportsmen Tavern. This special jazz edition of Classic Vinyl Live will feature the legendary Bobby Previte, as he brings his acclaimed Bitches Brew Band project to Buffalo for a live performance celebrating one of the most revolutionary albums in jazz history—Miles Davis’ Bitches Brew.
Previte, who was born in Niagara Falls and is an alumnus of the University at Buffalo, returns to his Western New York roots with this incredible show. His deep ties to the region make this concert even more special, as he shares his world-renowned talent with the Buffalo jazz community.
Bitches Brew, released in 1970, changed the course of jazz by blending elements of rock, funk, and avant-garde into the improvisational core of jazz music, creating the genre now known as jazz fusion. The album’s impact on music cannot be overstated, as it broke down the boundaries between genres and expanded the possibilities of what jazz could be. Today, Bobby Previte, one of the most innovative and boundary-pushing drummers and composers in the jazz world, continues the legacy of this masterpiece through his Bitches Brew Band project.

This presentation is part of Classic Vinyl Live, a series hosted by Jeff Miers, which brings to life some of the greatest albums ever recorded. In this special jazz edition, Bitches Brew will be the focus, and Previte’s expertise will guide the performance. Armed with the original charts he meticulously transcribed from the recordings, Previte has turned this project into a global workshop. He travels the world, teaching local musicians the intricacies of Bitches Brew before leading them in a live concert performance. His dedication to preserving and reinterpreting this music ensures that each performance is both a faithful homage and a fresh, contemporary interpretation.
Joining Previte on stage at Sportsmen Tavern will be some of Buffalo’s finest musicians, including Jared Tinkham on guitar, Joe Goehle on bass, John Bacon on drums, Griff Kazmierczak on violin, and Matt Incontro on saxophone. Together, this lineup will explore the electric and intricate world of Bitches Brew, offering audiences a rare opportunity to experience this iconic music live.
Previte’s Bitches Brew Band project is more than just a tribute to Miles Davis’ groundbreaking work; it’s a living, breathing exploration of one of jazz’s most innovative periods. As Previte leads the ensemble through the fusion soundscapes of Davis’ compositions, audiences are treated to thrilling improvisations that define the original recordings. Each performance is a unique journey, blending the spirit of Davis’ original vision with the individual artistry of the musicians on stage.
For jazz enthusiasts and newcomers alike, this concert offers a one-of-a-kind experience. The chance to hear Bobby Previte, a master of avant-garde jazz, lead a group of talented Buffalo musicians through the music of Bitches Brew is a rare and exciting opportunity. This performance promises to deliver the same electric energy and boundary-pushing innovation that made Bitches Brew a timeless classic.
