Last night’s performance at Pausa Art House was a true testament to the magic of jazz vocalese. Captured from a unique vantage point on stage, this unforgettable evening showcased the remarkable talent of jazz vocalist Vanessa Vacanti. Facing an audience of rapt attention, Vanessa and her ensemble brought the essence of swinging cool jazz to life with a spirit that was both fresh and timeless.
Joined by the accomplished musicians Elliot Sneider on piano, Simon Fletcher on guitar, Mary DiCioccio on bass, Abdul-Rahman Qadir on drums, and Tony Zambito on percussion, Vanessa led the group in a mesmerizing exploration of cool jazz vocal jazz. She invoked the spirit of the cool jazz vocal movement of the late 1950s with exceptional range, arrangements, and scatting. The crowd was captivated from the first note to the last, each artist bringing their unique style and mastery to the ensemble. Last night at the Pausa House was special. The combination of Vanessa Vacanti, the five-piece jazz accompaniment and the excellent acoustics of the room made for a performance that will not soon be forgotten, Vanessa was not working a gig or fulfilling a manager’s contract performance. She was there in mind, body, and soul to present a great vocal performance. The interlude, just before the last song, was a genuine moment of mutual respect, admiration, and gratitude for everyone there that night. The enthusiastic ovation at the close of that second set confirmed to the whole room Vanessa was “our “next-generation vocal performer.
