In 2024, JazzBuffalo played an instrumental role in bringing vibrant energy to downtown Buffalo through live jazz performances. Seneca One concerts, such as the sold-out attendance Thanksgiving Weekend for “A Swinging Cool Christmas” and “A Charlie Brown Christmas,” showcased the city’s architectural marvel while hosting talented jazz artists, creating unforgettable experiences for audiences. The Art Meets Jazz series continued to enchant audiences by fusing art and jazz into a singular event, further cementing downtown Buffalo as an arts and culture hub. Additionally, the ever-popular JazzMondays at Tappo Restaurant Rooftop celebrated its ninth year of enchanting audiences, offering breathtaking skyline views alongside the timeless music of the Great American Songbook. For the first time, JazzMondays now extends as a year-round offering for diners with jazz trios each Monday.

Through these efforts, jazz brought music lovers together and reinforced downtown Buffalo’s initiative to transform into a thriving cultural destination.

2. A Stage for International Jazz

Buffalo’s reputation as a rising jazz city was further solidified in 2024. The Art of Jazz Series at the Buffalo AKG Art Museum delivered exceptional performances from international jazz luminaries, drawing audiences to witness the brilliance of jazz. The Northwest Jazz Festival in Lewiston, NY, one of the region’s largest jazz festivals, showcased an impressive lineup of artists focused on celebrating the Great American Songbook. Other festivals, such as the Pappy Martin Legacy and Masten Jazz Festival, and the Queen City Jazz Festival, hosted international jazz artists.

JazzBuffalo’s commitment as a media sponsor and promoter of international jazz amplified the reach and impact of these events, ensuring Buffalo remained on the global jazz map. From the UBCFA hosting celebrated artists such as Samara Joy and JazzBuffalo partnering with Pausa Art House to host Raul Midón in April – 2024 was a year of milestones that underscored the city’s capacity to celebrate jazz on an international scale.

3. Building Community Through Live Jazz

Perhaps the most meaningful story of 2024 was the deepening sense of community within Buffalo’s live jazz presence. Jazz at Richardson and the Buffalo Jazz Festival at the Richardson-Olmsted Campus offered audiences an intimate setting to connect with live jazz and people passionate about community. Art Meets Jazz continued to inspire connections between artists and attendees in a novel attempt to bridge the art and jazz communities. These events, alongside other gatherings, provided a platform for people from all walks of life to unite in their shared love for jazz.

This focus on community building extended beyond concerts, with JazzBuffalo fostering partnerships and creating opportunities for local artists to engage with audiences in meaningful ways. The result has been a year of growth, collaboration, and unity that will undoubtedly carry into 2025.
