A Buffalo Homecoming: Sherrie Maricle and Dena DeRose Reunite for an Unforgettable Jazz Experience
On Sunday, February 2nd, at 3 PM, the Buffalo AKG Art Museum will host a remarkable reunion as award-winning drummer Sherrie Maricle joins forces with internationally acclaimed jazz pianist and vocalist Dena DeRose to inaugurate the 2025 Art of Jazz Series.
Born in Buffalo, New York, Sherrie Maricle’s return marks her first hometown performance in over two decades. Her illustrious career has been decorated with numerous accolades, including the 2009 Mary Lou Williams-Kennedy Center Lifetime Achievement Award and a 2016 Audelco Award for “Best Musical” for Tappin’ Thru Life.
As the leader of the renowned DIVA Jazz Orchestra, Maricle has been a trailblazer for all-female big bands worldwide, setting unparalleled standards of excellence. She has performed throughout the United States and Europe, including Carnegie Hall, the Hollywood Bowl, the Playboy Jazz Festival, and onboard the S.S. Norway and QE2 Jazz Cruises. She has also appeared at Jazz Festivals in Pori, Finland, Berlin, Germany, and Bern, Switzerland. Maricle also had a feature performance for the National Radio of Italy in Rome, in addition to coast-to-coast tours in Portugal, and a featured performance at the 25th Anniversary of the Kennedy Center in Washington D.C.
Dena DeRose and Sherrie Maricle share a musical partnership spanning four decades, a testament to their enduring friendship and collaborative spirit. Their combined artistry promises an unforgettable performance, blending virtuosic talent with deep-rooted camaraderie.
