An Unforgettable Afternoon at the Art of Jazz Series!
Sunday’s Art of Jazz Series concert at the Buffalo AKG Art Museum was nothing short of spectacular, thanks to the Jeff Hamilton Trio’s virtuoso performance. From the moment they opened with the lush, rhythmic melody of “Poinciana,” the tone was set for an afternoon of exceptional artistry.
Highlights included pianist Tadataka Unno’s original composition “Some Other Suite,” which wove modern harmonies with classic jazz sensibilities, and a thrilling drum-and-bass duo featuring Jon Hamar’s inventive “A Bucket of Fat.” Each piece showcased the trio’s tight interplay and individual brilliance.
But the crowning moment came with their dedication to Oscar Peterson: a sublime, captivating rendition of “Canadiana Suite.” The trio brought Peterson’s iconic melodies to life in an extraordinary musical fashion, and the audience leapt to its feet the instant the final note rang out.
Throughout the concert, Jeff Hamilton kept everyone engaged with his warm, comedic banter, connecting the audience to the music on a personal level. And of course, his exquisite drumming techniques—marked by impeccable timing and spirited solos—remained at the heart of this unforgettable performance.
