Status of Jazz at Richardson
This past Sunday, we kicked off the 2025 Jazz at Richardson series with what can only be described as a picture-perfect day. Sunshine, a light breeze, and the joyful sounds of the Ed Croft Trio filled the historic Richardson-Olmsted lawn as we were transported into the warm and whimsical world of Vince Guaraldi and the beloved Peanuts songbook. With Ivan Docenko on piano and Dave Wasik on drums, the trio gave a sparkling performance of Guaraldi classics—from “Linus and Lucy” to “Skating” and rare gems like “The Red Baron.” Families, jazz lovers, and longtime supporters gathered together in what’s become a signature JazzBuffalo tradition: enjoying great jazz while united as a community in one of Buffalo’s most cherished outdoor spaces, as well as iconic cultural landscapes.
As many of you may have heard, the Richardson Hotel Buffalo was recently reclaimed by the Richardson-Olmsted Campus board, and a new operator, Buffalo Lodging Associates, has been selected to manage the hotel. This sudden transition has put the remainder of the Jazz at Richardson series in question. We want you to know that we are actively engaged in conversations with both the Richardson-Olmsted Campus and Buffalo Lodging Associates to do everything possible to keep this beloved series alive, not just for this summer, but for years to come. Most importantly, we are advocating for the series to remain free and accessible to the hundreds of people who make Jazz at Richardson such a special part of Buffalo’s summer.
We also want to take a moment to extend our deepest thanks to Douglas Jemal and the Douglas Development Corporation for their generous support of Jazz at Richardson and the Buffalo Jazz Festival at this truly remarkable location. Their partnership has helped to establish what has become a cherished annual summer tradition—one that brings joy, connection, and the spirit of jazz to the heart of our community.
We ask for your support—your voice matters. Let others know how important this series is to you, and please be patient as we navigate the logistics. We remain hopeful and committed to seeing Jazz at Richardson continue to thrive as a cultural anchor for our city.
Warm regards,
Tony Zambito
Executive Director, JazzBuffalo
