Building a vibrant future for downtown Buffalo through music, art, and community
Since the pandemic, downtown Buffalo has faced real challenges. With fewer workers in offices and many commercial projects stalled, the energy that once filled our core has been harder to sustain. We are not alone in this — cities across the country have experienced the same struggle to reignite downtown life.
Adapting means finding strength in what makes us unique — and in Buffalo, that begins with our arts, entertainment, cultural, and historic assets. These are not just amenities; they are essential ingredients in revitalization. When touring companies perform at Shea’s, when musical theater thrives at Shea’s 710, when drama excels at Irish Classical Theater, when music fills Kleinhans Music Hall, when galleries open their doors, and when people gather to celebrate in restaurants – we see downtown come alive again.

Through JazzBuffalo efforts like Jazz at Kleinhans, Art Meets Jazz at Beebe’s at the Gallery, and the Buffalo Jazz Festival on Ellicott Street in partnership with Tappo Restaurant, we’re seeing how the arts and entertainment can lead the way — drawing people downtown, supporting local businesses, and inspiring civic pride. Each performance and cultural event contributes to a renewed sense of place and belonging. Strengthening people’s connection to Buffalo’s identity.
As Buffalo continues its journey of recovery and renewal, the arts will remain a guiding light. But for this light to grow brighter, it requires partnership. Civic and business leaders must come together with the arts and entertainment communities to champion these efforts — to see investment in culture as investment in Buffalo’s future.
And as a community, we must embrace that the very identity of Buffalo is tied to a strong and vibrant downtown — one that reflects our creative spirit and deep cultural roots. By standing together in support of the arts, we ensure that downtown Buffalo not only recovers but thrives as the heart of who we are.
