JazzBuffalo and Jazz at Kleinhans on Most Buffalo: An Exciting Season of Tribute, Legacy, and Downtown Renewal

Sharing the story behind Buffalo’s landmark Jazz at Kleinhans season—and why it matters now.

I recently had the opportunity to join Lauren Hall on Most Buffalo (WGRZ Channel 2) for a thoughtful, 4-minute conversation about what makes the upcoming Jazz at Kleinhans season such a meaningful moment for our city. I’m grateful for the chance to talk about jazz not only as music, but as a cultural force that continues to shape Buffalo’s identity and its future.

In the interview, we focused on the three major tribute concerts at the heart of this season—performances that honor the Great American Songbook and some of the most influential figures in American music. From celebrating Harold Arlen, one of Buffalo’s greatest contributions to American culture, to honoring Tony Bennett’s centennial, to marking the 100th birthdays of Miles Davis and John Coltrane, these concerts are about legacy, melody, and the enduring relevance of jazz in our lives today.

We also touched on what’s ahead beyond the tributes, including the excitement surrounding Béla Fleck’s BEATrio and Gregory Porter, and how presenting artists of this caliber at Kleinhans Music Hall reinforces Buffalo’s place as a premier jazz destination. Just as importantly, we discussed how programs like Jazz at Kleinhans contribute to the ongoing revitalization of downtown, bringing people together in one of America’s great music halls for shared cultural experiences.

You can watch the full Most Buffalo interview below and hear more about why this season represents a special chapter for jazz in Buffalo—and why we invite the community to be part of it.
