Moving to the Rendezvous Room to welcome more of our community—while preserving the lounge experience you expect
We’re excited to share an important update about The Jazz Lounge—one that comes from listening closely to our community and reflecting on what this experience has already become.
After careful consideration, The Jazz Lounge is moving to the larger vintage Rendezvous Room.
This decision is rooted first and foremost in gratitude. The response to The Jazz Lounge has been overwhelming—in the best possible way. From the steady stream of inquiries for reservations to the sold-out nights in advance, it’s clear this experience resonates deeply with our community. With that enthusiasm comes responsibility: to respond thoughtfully, to grow intentionally, and to ensure The Jazz Lounge has a strong foundation for the long term.
Moving to the Rendezvous Room allows us to:
- Meet growing demand and welcome more people into the experience
- Increase accessibility to jazz-inspired events—central to JazzBuffalo’s mission
- Support downtown revitalization, helping bring people together in one of Buffalo’s most iconic historic spaces
- Overcome early limitations we encountered in the original room that affected sightlines, sound, comfort, and our ability to deliver the high level of quality we expect for our community
What’s important to know: the Jazz Lounge experience you expect and love isn’t changing—it’s expanding and improving. The intimacy, atmosphere, artistry, and sense of connection remain at the heart of The Jazz Lounge. The larger space simply gives us better capabilities to elevate sound, comfort, flow, and overall experience—while keeping the spirit intact.
The Rendezvous Room has a rich history rooted in jazz. It was once a popular gathering place for dancing, socializing, and enjoying live jazz—especially larger ensembles that filled the room with energy and swing. Take a look at this photo from the early 1950s, complete with the original bandstand, and you can feel how naturally this space was meant for music and community.
We’re also deeply grateful for our partnership with Statler Hospitality, whose team has gone above and beyond to help create something truly special. Their commitment to hospitality, care for detail, and shared belief in the value of arts and culture have been essential in bringing The Jazz Lounge to life—and in taking this next step forward.
This move reflects something bigger than a room change. It reflects what can happen when community shows up, when partnerships work, and when arts and culture are embraced as part of downtown’s renewal.
