Jazz and the Great American Songbook Contributes to Downtown Renewal in Buffalo

From the revivals of the Rendezvous Room and Beebe’s on the Square to Jazz at Kleinhans and weekly gatherings at Tappo, a growing movement is bringing life and cultural energy back to our city’s core.

Something meaningful is happening in our downtown—and you are part of it.

Each time our community gathers for live jazz and to celebrate our Great American Songbook legacy, we’re doing more than enjoying a performance. We’re contributing to renewal. We’re helping bring life and energy back to the heart of our city. We’re demonstrating how arts and culture can serve as a catalyst for revitalization.

We’re thrilled about the revival of the historic Rendezvous Room at the iconic Statler Buffalo through The Jazz Lounge—reawakening a space that once defined elegance and artistry in Buffalo. We’re energized by the renewed spirit of Beebe’s on the Square, the creativity unfolding through our Art Meets Jazz events, and the opportunity to be part of the Brisbane Building’s transformation.

Our weekly jazz gatherings at Tappo Restaurant continue to bring consistent vibrancy to downtown evenings, creating a welcoming place where community and the Great American Songbook meet. These weekly moments matter. They build momentum. They build audiences. They build belonging.

And through Jazz at Kleinhans at the storied Kleinhans Music Hall, we are developing Buffalo’s premier jazz program—presenting world-class artistry at one of the nation’s great halls. This is how we bridge legacy with future promise: honoring our history while elevating Buffalo’s place on the national jazz map.

We’re also looking ahead to summer along Ellicott Street, where jazz will once again spill into the open air—adding rhythm, joy, and shared experience to the season.

This is what arts and culture can do. They activate spaces. They connect people. They create momentum. They help define identity.

We believe Buffalo can be a model for how downtown renewal is elevated through music, partnership, and shared purpose. And we hope you’ll continue walking this journey with us—one performance, one gathering, one meaningful evening at a time.

The future of our city’s core is bright.

And together, we’re helping it swing.
