April is Jazz Appreciation Month: Exciting JazzBuffalo Events Not to Be Missed

A Month of Music, Community, and Celebration

April arrives with special meaning for jazz lovers everywhere. Recognized as Jazz Appreciation Month, it’s a time to celebrate the rich history, enduring legacy, and evolving future of this uniquely American art form. The month culminates on April 30 with International Jazz Day, a global celebration of jazz’s power to unite people across cultures and communities.

Here in Buffalo, we have much to appreciate—and even more to experience.

Throughout April, JazzBuffalo presents a series of events that reflect the spirit of the music: connection, creativity, and community. From intimate settings to larger stages, each gathering offers a chance to engage with live jazz in a meaningful way.

Art Meets Jazz returns on April 15, featuring vocalist DeeAnn DiMeo in the inspiring setting of Beebe’s on the Square. Blending visual art and live music, this unique experience continues to contribute to the growing energy of downtown Buffalo and offers an evening that is both personal and immersive.

The Jazz Lounge at the historic Rendezvous Room in the Statler continues to build momentum as one of the city’s most exciting new experiences. On April 30—International Jazz Day—we’ll feature the fabulous Vanessa Vacanti Quartet, joined by an outstanding ensemble: keyboardist Dave Solazzo, bassist Matthew Vacanti, and drummer Ryan Caven. It’s a fitting and festive way to celebrate this global day of recognition, with an evening that reflects both the ambiance of the setting and the high level of musicianship that is aimed at bringing audiences closer to the music in a meaningful and engaging way.

April also brings the opportunity to celebrate Easter (Sunday, April 5th) with live jazz as part of the experience. A special Easter Sunday brunch featuring jazz will take place at The Hotel at the Lafayette —offering a wonderful way to gather with family and friends while enjoying the music in a beautiful and historic setting.

At Jazz at Kleinhans, anticipation continues to grow for a remarkable April lineup. Performances by John Pizzarelli and his trio tribute to Tony Bennett on April 26, along with the dynamic energy of BEATrio on April 24, highlight the breadth of artistry being presented on one of Buffalo’s most iconic music halls—celebrating both tradition and improvisation in jazz.
