A Historic Moment
This past Sunday, Buffalo experienced one of those rare musical moments that will long be remembered in our city’s jazz history.
More than 545 audience members gathered at Kleinhans Music Hall for Emmet Cohen Presents Miles & Coltrane at 100—a magnificent celebration honoring two of the most transformational artists in the history of jazz. What unfolded throughout the afternoon was far more than simply a concert. It was a shared community experience filled with artistry, inspiration, joy, emotion, and a reminder of the enduring power of live jazz performed at the highest level.
The extraordinary talents of Emmet Cohen, Nicholas Payton, Tivon Pennicott, Reuben Rogers, and Joe Saylor combined to create what many are already calling one of the all-time great jazz performances in Buffalo jazz history.
Most moving of all has been the outpouring of comments, reflections, gratitude, and encouragement that followed from audience members and the broader community. Your words, enthusiasm, and belief in this vision continue to inspire all of us involved in building Jazz at Kleinhans and supporting the future of jazz in Buffalo.
A bright road lies ahead—not only for Jazz at Kleinhans, but for jazz and the Great American Songbook, having a permanent premier jazz program and center in Buffalo. Together, we are building something truly meaningful for our city, our arts community, and future generations of music lovers.
And for that, we remain deeply grateful.
JazzBuffalo: Where Buffalo Gathers for Jazz.
With gratitude,
