Paul Marinaro and Bria Skonberg bring the Great American Songbook and contemporary jazz together for a memorable Lewiston Jazz Festival weekend.
One of the joys of presenting a jazz festival is discovering the unexpected connections between artists.
As I was thinking about this year’s headline performances, one stood out immediately. Paul Marinaro’s acclaimed album Mood Ellington and Bria Skonberg’s outstanding new release Indigo create a fitting bridge between Friday and Saturday evening. Together, they shine a light on Duke Ellington’s timeless classic, “Mood Indigo.”
It’s a wonderful reminder that jazz is always in conversation with its past while continuing to create something new.
On Friday evening, we’re honored to welcome Paul Marinaro, one of today’s finest interpreters of the Great American Songbook. Paul’s performances are filled with warmth, elegance, and an extraordinary ability to connect with audiences through timeless songs and meaningful storytelling. He doesn’t simply sing the Great American Songbook—he invites you into it.

Then on Saturday evening, we’re excited to welcome Bria Skonberg, one of the most engaging artists in jazz today. An internationally acclaimed trumpeter and vocalist, Bria brings extraordinary musicianship together with infectious joy and spontaneity. Her new album, Indigo, reflects the creativity and vibrancy that continue to shape jazz today while honoring the music’s rich tradition.

Together, these two evenings beautifully capture what makes jazz so beautiful and enduring. One celebrates the timeless songs that continue to define the Great American Songbook. The other reminds us that jazz continues to evolve through artists who bring fresh ideas and boundless creativity to the stage.
Whether you join us for one evening or both, I truly believe you’ll experience two artists who leave a lasting impression.
